Designing Compelling Medical Games” is a workshop about the design process. Think of a “cooking school” where the secrets behind each dish (the game) are learned, versus a “cooking class” where the chef demonstrates how to prepare the dish. We will focus on the “why” more than the “how”, a nd participants will have the opportunity to experiment as they create their own compelling game!

Speaker Profile

David Gaba, MD, PhD

David Gaba received a BS in biomedical engineering from Northwestern University, an MD from Yale University, and completed a residency in anesthesiology at Stanford. He is a professor of anesthesia at the Stanford School of Medicine, a fellow at CHP/PCOR, and Associate Dean of Immersive and Simulation-based Learning. Dr. Gaba is a founder of realistic patient simulation and the creator of Anesthesia Crisis Resource Management, a training method used worldwide. He developed and has managed the Patient Safety Center of Inquiry at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System since the mid 1980's, a Center that has been modeled by institutions around the World. Dr. Gaba is interested in a wide variety
of topics related to patient safety, including high-fidelity patient
simulation; the effects of fatigue on clinicians' performance; and
organizational learning through adverse-event reporting and analysis.
