Speaker Profile

Fred Kron

Dr. Fred Kron’s credentials as both a practicing Family Medicine physician and a successful multimedia writer give him a singular perspective on the exciting opportunities for blending new media and medicine.  Fred has worked as a staff writer at Universal Studios and Hanna-Barbera Studios; done development writing for Booker PLC of Britain, as well as writing for the Disney Studios, MGM, Paramount-based VU Productions (a division of UBU Productions), and Threshold Entertainment. Underscoring the scope of Fred’s talent is the wide array of animated and live action television shows for which he has written; these range from “The New Outer Limits” and “Quantum Leap” to children’s favorites like “The Pink Panther” and “The Smurfs.” In interactive media, Fred’s credits are likewise eclectic, and include the award-winning CD ROM titles, “Freddi Fish” and “Spy Fox,” and writing for Threshold’s “ShatterWorld” internet web site.  (“ShatterWorld” is a project Fred created in collaboration with writers and artists from “Star Trek: The Next Generation”).  In addition, he serves as a permanent member on the New Media Committee of the Writer’s Guild of America West.  Fred’s 26-year career in medicine is equally diverse; it includes training in Radiology, Internal Medicine, Flight Medicine and Family Medicine, and scholarly work in Geriatrics and Physician-Patient communications.

Currently, Fred is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin, where he was recruited to undertake an ambitious project of integrating cutting-edge, new media technologies into traditional medical education.  He is creating innovative training platforms for healthcare students through the use of distributed synthetic world technology.
