Speaker Profile
Parvati Dev Parvati Dev completed her doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering on computer models of the brain at Stanford University. She has worked on the research and teaching staff at M.I.T., Boston University, and Stanford. From 1982 to 1989 she was Vice-President at CEMAX Inc, where she developed products for three-dimensional imaging of patients from computed tomography and magnetic resonance scans. Since January 1990, she has led the SUMMIT Research Laboratory for Learning Technologies at Stanford. In its fifteen year history, SUMMIT has been a pioneer in the development of digital educational materials related to anatomy and surgery. From 2002 to 2004, she was appointed Associate Dean of Learning Technologies for the medical school. Dr. Dev's current research is in virtual reality for medical education, including the visualization of human anatomy and the simulation of clinical procedures, its delivery over Internet2, and the evaluation of its efficacy in learning outcomes. |
